Among Assiniboine Park’s bounty of attractions is the fabulous Pavilion, which has undergone a renaissance and now houses a first class restaurant and an art gallery that features the work of three Manitoba artists. A new attraction near the Pavilion is the Lyric Theatre bandstand, where one can enjoy the Winnipeg Symphony or the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
Assiniboine Park straddles the Assiniboine River by way of a picturesque footbridge. Its meandering trails are a walker’s paradise that changes with the seasons—the Duck Pond becomes a skating rink in the winter months! The English Gardens are a delight for the horticulturist. Winding paths lead to the Leo Mol Garden, which boasts the largest sculpture garden in North America.
Annually, more than a million guests get to know the 1,250 mammals, birds and reptiles at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. The climate controlled Tropical House provides an indoor-outdoor collection of 330 specimens and 77 species. And the Conservatory is a flower lover's delight—especially in the winter months, when it remains a wonderfully lush retreat as the snow and winds rage outdoors.
After all these years, how successful is the park in meeting the needs of Winnipeg’s citizens? "Assiniboine Park: A Park For All Seasons" not only tours the park, but also features interviews with park planners and park visitors who describe what they love about this great slice of the diverse Winnipeg lifestyle—what it is that draws them to Assiniboine Park time and time again through all seasons and through all stages of life.
